Electrify first: the EU shows its hand, and biomethane must make its case

A leaked Electrification Action Plan put electric power at the heart of Europe's 2040 thinking, with a pitch to displace two-thirds of gas demand and save some €200bn. For renewable gas the signal cuts both ways: the move away from fossil gas is confirmed, and the job now is to own the hard-to-electrify uses, high-temperature heat, dispatchable supply and farm feedstock, where biomethane is the clear answer. A carbon price near €80 and CBAM at €75.28 kept the premium on verified low-carbon supply.

Ireland takes the chair as its own climate maths falls short

Ireland assumed the EU Council Presidency on 1 July, handing Irish officials the pen on Europe's energy and bioeconomy agenda for the next six months. It arrives just as the EPA warns the country is heading for a 25 percent emissions cut against a binding 51 percent, and as a run of biomethane milestones, from Duleek to Mitchelstown, tests whether Ireland can actually inject what it has promised.

Ireland's biomethane week: delivery talk as the clock runs out on the RHO

Biomethane Day Ireland turned from vision to execution, even as the six-month EU standstill on the Renewable Heat Obligation ran to 29 June, forcing a redesign of the domestic-production multiplier. The same week brought Ireland's first National Biorefinery Pilot Plant at Lisheen and a Council deal on the European Grids Package.
