BlockChained Custody.

Custos records each stage of renewable gas, digestate and carbon credit production as a signed, tamper-evident record. Every blockchain entry proves who supplied each tonne, the standard it meets, and that nobody else has claimed it.

System overview

Signed proof at every stage of production.

Custos is a digital chain of custody platform for renewable gas, digestate fertiliser and carbon credits. It records feedstock intake, anaerobic digestion, pyrolysis, grid injection and land application as cryptographically signed, tamper-evident records. Nine interlocking modules carry that proof from farm to grid, so origin, standard and single-claim ownership can be verified end to end.

Blockchain certification

What each module writes, and what only reads.

Some modules mint new signed records the moment output is produced. Others consume those records without writing new ones. The distinction defines what Custos certifies and what it only reports on.

How Custos uses blockchain certification at each module exit, from feedstock intake through to community reporting

Modules that issue a signed certificate

Each of these writes a new cryptographically signed record the moment its output is produced, locked so it cannot be edited after the fact.

Module 1 · Feedstock intake
Signs a feedstock passport the instant a batch is logged: origin, category, carbon intensity, locked before it can move on.
Issues passport
Module 4 · HUB aggregation
Combines individual suppliers' passports into one certified batch, with mass balance tracking against every source.
Issues passport
Module 2 · Biomethane plant
Signs a production certificate and digestate quality passport at the point gas is metered and digestate leaves the plant.
Issues passport
Module 3 · Pyrolysis and biochar
Mints a carbon removal credit once lab analysis confirms carbon content and contaminant thresholds are met.
Issues credit
Module 5 · Biogenic CO₂
Signs a biogenic CO2 passport only after isotopic analysis proves biological origin, before the CO2 leaves for storage.
Issues passport
Module 6 · Soil carbon
Mints a verified soil carbon credit once satellite imagery and soil sampling confirm sequestration took place.
Issues credit
Modules that read the chain, not write to it

These consume already-certified records rather than minting new ones, and the draft system scope doesn't specify chain writes for them.

Module 7 · Financial model
Reads certified volumes and prices from modules 1 through 6 into investor-grade reports. Writes no new records.
Reads chain
Module 8 · Yield forecasting
Produces predictions, not verified outcomes, so it's kept separate from the certified audit trail by design.
Not certified
Module 9 · Community access
A read-only public window onto module 2's already-certified data. Mints nothing new of its own.
